BEEKEEPING EXPERIENCE IN RWANDA

Expectations Hik Africa is really experienced about beekeeping: Suit up in protective gear and join a professional beekeeper on a fascinating exploration of Rwandan beekeeping!

Learn about beehive types and their importance in the ecosystem. Get an up-close look at traditional and modern beehives used in Rwanda and understand their role in honey production and environmental sustainability.

Witness the art of safe hive inspection. Observe an experienced beekeeper gently open a hive, uncovering the wonders of a bee colony at work. You’ll see honeycombs buzzing with activity and learn about the different roles of worker bees, drones, and the queen bee.

Participate in honey harvesting (seasonal). If visiting during honey harvesting season, you’ll have the opportunity to suit up and assist the beekeeper with extracting golden honey from the hive frames. (This may not be possible year-round, so be sure to highlight it if it’s a seasonal offering).

Discover the honey processing techniques. Learn how raw honey is extracted, filtered, and bottled, and gain an appreciation for the hard work that goes into every jar.

Enjoy a taste of Rwanda’s finest honey! Sample the delicious honey produced at the apiary, savoring its unique flavor and appreciating the culmination of your beekeeping experience.

Day 1; Bee Keeping Experience with Expectations Hike Africa. Bees make honey from nectar, which is a sugary secretion of flowers. It contains sugars (80-85%) that are easily absorbed by the body. Bee keeping is a very important for income generating to the community and useful to their lives. Honey is a very good energy food and also used as a sweetener. It has medicinal properties, often used to help cure coughs, ulcers, wounds and sore throats. Honey has attractive chemical properties for baking and a distinctive flavor. Our drive guide will pick you from your hotel and drive to Musanze for bee keeping experience. During this visit you will get to know how honey is produced from making the beehive up to harvesting fresh honey. Well protected you will get a chance to harvest honey as you are protected by beekeeper’s costume. After, we will drive back at Hotel. The cost; $170 per person
